Gone to Texas, a Musical

When Mexican dictator Santa Anna forces his will on others, Texas heros Davy Crockett, James Bowie, and William Barret Travis fight for freedom and liberty. An often produced musical about the men who made the ultimate sacrifice during the War of Texas Independence in 1836. Rousing choruses and sentimental ballads.

Gone To Texas
“...a thoroughly entertaining evening. The first big musical number, “Gone to Texas,” sets the pace for the rest of the show. It’s an engaging song that introduces many of the characters. From there on, the show is off and runing, keeping a nimble pace throughout.”
- Deborah Martin, San Antonio Express-News

“The production shows great promise. The scenes were very well-seamed together. If a production has just one hit in it, it has promise to become something big. This show has a couple of them.”
- Mark Richter, Lyric Opera of San Antonio

“The music and the smooth scene/time changes provided the momentum from adventure to tragedy.”
- Jean Flynn, Texas historian and biographer

“One of the show’s strengths from the beginning has been the well-crafted music.”
- Deborah Martin, SA Express-News

"When I saw Tom's 'Fire on the Bayou' it was like 'Wow! This is quality composition.' That's why I suggested the Alamo. I thought it could be really big," Richter said. "'Gone to Texas' has a fantastic potential to become a major regional musical and maybe go on to Broadway. The music is extremely melodic and moves well with the story. Tom has that gift of melody that elicits the right emotional response from the audience. I can't wait to see the new version." - Mark Richter
